The Chion-in Temple was built by a Buddhist priest Honen in 1234 CE. This massive temple that is situated in Kyoto, Japan, once had 21 buildings. But now the number is shortened because of fire and earthquakes and the current oldest building is of 17th century. There are many interesting sights in Chion-in Temple including the entrance gate that the largest in Japan, that is two storeys high called the San-mon gate. This temple also has world's largest bell that needs 17 monks to ring it. Another interesting feature is the singing floor called the Uguisu-bari. The floor is made up of wooden planks. Designed to creak on every step, this floor is said to keep the monks alert.
