Andhra Pradesh Tourism : Kohinoor of India
Andhra Pradesh is situated on the southeastern coast of
India. Home to many religious pilgrim destinations, Andhra Pradesh
tourism thrives on a treasure trove of ancient caves, hill resorts and
golden beaches.
Of the several sacred temples here, Tirumala
Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati is considered most holy, being the abode
of Hindu god Venkateswara. The Nallamala Hills are the site of the
temple of Srisailam, which is the abode of Mallikarjuna and one of the
twelve Jyothirlingas in India. The Shiva Temple in Amaravati and the
temple of Yadagirigutta which is believed to be the abode of Lakshmi
Narasimha an avatar of Vishnu are both part of Pancharamams. Other
noteworthy temples are the Ramappa temple and Thousand Pillars temple in
Warangal, both of which are famous for their temple carvings.Having been under the rule of King Ashoka for several decades, there still exist various sites that show the deep influence Buddhism had on Andhra Pradesh.
A trip to the Buddhist centres at Amaravati, Nagarjuna Konda, Bhattiprolu, Ghantasala, Nelakondapalli, Dhulikatta, Bavikonda, Thotlakonda, Shalihundam, Pavuralakonda, Bojjannakonda Sankaram, Phanigiri and Kolanpaka figure in the Andhra Pradesh tourism agendas of the travelers.The state’s capital city Hyderabad is also a rich in culture, with many places of interests, palaces, museums, parks and religious sites. The golden beaches at Visakhapatnam are another attraction of Andhra Pradesh tourism. The naturally picturesque Araku Valley, the hill resorts of Horsley Hills, or the fascinating site of Papi Kondalu, which sees the river Godavari flow through a narrow gorge are all fine examples of the diversity of sightseeing options that Andhra Pradesh tourism has to offer.
The Borra Caves in the Anatagiri Hills of the Eastern Ghats stand at an altitude of about 800 to 1300 metres and are famous for their million-year-old stalactite and stalagmite formations.
There are formations in these caves that resemble the human brain or ‘burra’ in the local language, from which these caves get their names.The Andhra Pradesh tourism also thrives on the several exotic monuments strewn around the state. Hyderabad, the capital city of the state has over 400 years of rich history under the Nizams, which is evident in the many beautiful and magnificent monuments in the city like the Charminar, a four-towered symbol of the city and the famous citadel of Golconda, a 16th century capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.
The ancient city of Nagarjunasagar is the site of a huge dam on the Krishna River with many antiquities preserved on an island in the Nagarjunasagar Lake. The town of Puttaparthi is the site of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram and is another busy place of pilgrimage.
